RCCSD was formed by a multiracial team of organizers in 2018 to build an inclusive base of power to challenge the cumulative and disproportionate impact of climate disaster, climate injustice, and a degenerating economy in Robeson County and southeastern NC. 

The Coop has a 38-year history of successful and sustained social and environmental justice organizing through the former Center for Community Action (CCA) co-founded by Donna Chavis and Rev. Mac Legerton. The Coop’s Co-Directors, Sallie McLean and Rev. Legerton, were both staff at CCA for a combined 70 years. The Coop has a multiracial and inter-generarational staff of five members with over 100 years of nonprofit and community organizing experience. The Coop has a racially diverse staff including three Blacks, one Indigenous, and one White member.
